The 12 artists selected to paint murals throughout downtown and Midtown Sacramento are putting on their finishing touches and cleaning off their brushes, as the Sacramento Mural Festival draws to a close on Saturday.

The artists — from Sacramento, Los Angeles and the Bay Area — had a week to transform a bland wall into a creative wonder as part the Sacramento Mural Festival, sponsored by the nonprofit group, Friends of Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. The public joined in, by stopping at locations throughout the central city to watch the artists in action. ArtJam, which happens at the end of the festival, serves as a fundraiser for the Friends of SMAC, which supports arts and education in the Capital Region.
