Jean-Luc Colombo 2007 Les Abeilles, Cotes Du Rhone, $20::

Located along the Mediterranean south of Burgundy and north of Provence, the Cotes Du Rhone vineyard is a hidden gem of white wine drinkers. Made from Roussanne and Grenache Gris grapes, the wine features scents of honeydew melon and wild flower with a petrol note. Stored in old barrels, it finishes with a hint of neutral oak.

Where to find it:

Bistro Michel in Sacramento, and Selland’s Market-Cafe in East Sacramento (thekitchenrestaurant.com/sellands).

What to eat with this wine:

Croque Marquis, made with Cure 81 ham, Gruyére, Spinach and poached egg with pommes frites and salad.

Richard Macias is the general manager of the recently opened Bistro Michel, located at 14th & O near the State Capitol.
