Charles Vincent McDonald is a freelance photographer in Woodland. While in the U.S. Coast Guard, he attended the U.S. Naval School of Photography. Charles worked as a Photographic Lab Technician to support the Landsat satellite imagery program at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and the General Electric Company.
He documents local Yolo County farms for the YoloArts.org Art & Ag Project. His volunteer photography includes the Albie Aware Breast Cancer Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Yolo Backpacks for Kids Project, Yolo County Women’s History Month, Yolo County Historical Society (Gibson House), and the Sac City Rollers (girls roller derby). During the 2012 baseball season, he was a Sacramento River Cats photographer.
Charles was selected to be a member of the review jury for the 2014 AIA Central Valley Architectura Obscura Photography Competition.
The California State Fair came to an end this past weekend after another successful year. Despite temperatures reaching triple digits many days, Cal Expo was crowded with thousands enjoying the fascinating exhibits, popular livestock shows, mouthwatering food and award-winning wine tasting.
On June 20 The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society held it’s annual Man & Woman of the Year Awards at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is an annual 10-week fundraising competition between community leaders united by one goal, to use their leadership skills to raise funds to help blood cancer patients live longer and more fulfilling lives.
On November 14-16, aspiring women entrepreneurs filled The Urban Hive to create businesses in 54 hours at Sacramento’s first women’s hackathon.
On September 27th and 28th, the 17th Annual Sacramento Reptile Show took place at the Sacramento Convention Center. This family friendly event showcased reptiles of all shapes and sizes including snakes, iguanas, turtles, alligators and more. Attendees had a chance to get close and personal with these scaly animals.
