CREATING VISITOR EXPERIENCES ON THE AMERICAN RIVER PARKWAY

American River Parkway Foundation

Back Sponsored May 1, 2026

A great park is about more than land, wildlife and recreation. It’s about the people who use it to understand nature, to refresh and recreate, and the communities whose values it represents. This park rests on the committed expertise of volunteers, donors and the work of the American River Parkway Foundation.

The American River Parkway Foundation has been providing visitor experiences for 43 years. Today, each of their programs is designed to involve the community. Every ounce of support helps keep all 4,800 acres of the parkway vibrant, welcoming and thriving.

These programs are supported by dedicated volunteers who become
part of the American River Parkway family, removing trash, pulling invasive plants, maintaining trails and even helping rebuild and restore park structures. Nearly 5,000 individuals step up each year to support the parkway through employee team-building, completing school service hours or simply wanting to give back and enjoy the outdoors. Every volunteer plays a vital role.

“Our volunteers often say they feel part of a large, like-minded family, driven to keep this natural wonder clean and safe.” —Dianna Poggetto, Executive Director

“Our volunteers often say they feel part of a large, like-minded family, driven to keep this natural wonder clean and safe,” says Executive Director Dianna Poggetto. “The parkway connects all of us through the various communities we reside in along the 23 miles of land and water. Bringing those individuals out to experience the parkway firsthand through recreation and education is a goal of our programs.”

A great park rises and rests on a foundation of community, who come together to create lasting values.

“We invite each of you to come and enjoy the greatest civic amenity in the Sacramento area,” concludes Poggetto.
