Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera

SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center opens in 2020

Back Sponsored Nov 19, 2019 By Jennifer von Geldern

Established in 1912 and redeveloped in 2015, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera is a collaborative cultural pillar institution dedicated to serving the greater community — from youth music education in the classroom to main stage performances of orchestral and operatic music at the highest regional caliber — and contributing to the growth of Sacramento’s Creative Economy. The organization is committed to attaining the highest caliber of music in order to offer the Sacramento region world-class classical music concerts.

SAFE Credit Union proudly supports the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera’s mission to bring the highest quality and most meaningful performances to the region as well as outreach to students to cultivate a new generation of music aficionados. SAFE recently announced a 25-year commitment to the success of downtown Sacramento with an investment in the SAFE Credit Union Convention, the greater Sacramento region and Performing Arts District.

The district will be home to a future-forward convention center and a theater equipped with high-tech features that will bring audiences exceptional experiences. This investment is a show of support for local performing artists, in particular the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera that will call the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center home when it opens in fall 2020.

“We are grateful to SAFE Credit Union and the City of Sacramento for their commitment to making the arts a centerpiece of this community,” says Alice Sauro, executive director of the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera. “Because of their incredible investment, Sacramento will enjoy a newly renovated and enhanced performance hall next year that will allow the arts and culture in this city to continue to grow and flourish.”

The new facility will have an innovative new acoustic system and improved amenities such as an expanded lobby, more restrooms, and two aisles that will provide a more accessible and enriched experience for all. “Our community has been incredibly responsive to our music, and we are so happy that their support will be rewarded with this renovated theater, which will allow us to continue providing excellent classical music in this region,” says Sauro.

The Philharmonic & Opera is always working to solidify Sacramento as a cultural destination and is well-known for bringing internationally-acclaimed musicians and conductors to Capital Region audiences. The new performing arts center will provide an exemplary venue to showcase the high quality of the Philharmonic & Opera’s performances.

“Our focus thus far has been on bringing the community together to inspire curiosity and transform lives through our music,” says Sauro. “The performing arts center will allow us to continue doing just that for the long term. Thank you again to the city and SAFE, as well as all of our partners and supporters, for making this possibility a reality.”
