Michelle Alexander has been working in the Sacramento region’s creative sector for 15 years. In 2008 Alexander took on the position of Executive Director at the Arts and Business Council, managing all aspects of the nonprofit chapter of Americans for the Arts. In 2010, Alexander was tapped by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson to lead the For Art’s Sake Initiative as Chair of Investing in Talent and the Creative Economy, and then as Project Manager in January 2012. In June 2012 she launched the Sacramento region’s first “Flywheel” Creative Economy Incubator to provide a curated group of artists, nonprofits and small creative companies with intensive training and support to accelerate their careers in art. Alexander currently consults on creative sector advocacy, business management for arts professionals, nonprofit technology, online giving and social media. She currently serves as the community resource director for the Developmental Disabilities Service Organization, and is a resident of the Warehouse Artist Lofts on R Street.
