A Special Evening Celebrating 40 Years of the California Arts Council

Join us to celebrate creativity and the arts in California at a public performance event with a free community after-party to follow. The Event will be honoring Governor Edmund G. Brown, creator of the California Arts Council and will be hosted by Annette Bening.

A free public celebration hosted by Bening will honor the forty-year history of the California Arts Council with featured dance and music performances. Special guests include Peter Coyote, a founding member and the second Chair of the California Arts Council, and Juan Felipe Herrera, United States Poet Laureate and former California Poet Laureate. 

Performers include:

  • AXIS Dance Company
  • Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento
  • The Great Wall Youth Orchestra
  • Lula Washington Dance
  • Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir
  • Taiko drum leaders Roy and PJ Hirabayashi.

Annette Bening is a passionate advocate for arts education and served as a member of the California Arts Council from 2004-2008. As a Council Member, Bening fought for increased state arts funding and championed arts initiatives for young people across California.
