Every year this emotionally-moving event chooses a leader in the region to honor with the Beacon of Hope Award. This year’s honoree, Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, exemplifies the spirit of this award and event. The night is chock full of inspiring stories from successful Cottage Housing alumni, as well as entertainment. This year, one of the top voices in jazz and blues – Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers – will rock the Crest with a benefit performance. In addition, acclaimed poet Terry Moore will articulate the power of moving people from homelessness into self-sufficiency. Some of the best local food-trucks will be on hand providing the food for the evening’s guests. All proceeds will benefit Cottage Housing, Inc., an award-winning Sacramento nonprofit serving formerly homeless individuals and families.
