Holly’s Hill Vineyards 2009 El Dorado Grenache Noir with mushroom pappardelle:

The pappardelle is paired with Holly’s Hill 2009 Grenache Noir. This vintage has aromas of earthy plums that open to strawberries, cherries, flowers and slight licorice. In the mouth, the wine has silky smooth tannins, great acid and a finish that will leave you wanting more.

Where to find it:

At the winery (hollyshill.com) and The Press (thepressbistro.com) in midtown Sacramento.Nestled in the beautiful Sierra Foothills of El Dorado County and Pleasant Valley, Holly’s Hill Vineyards exclusively produces Rhone varietal wines, including Viognier, Rousssance, Grenache, Mouvedre, Syrah and Counoise.

What to eat with this wine:

Mushroom pappardelle with Madeira cream sauce. Three types of roasted mushrooms are used in the pasta, as each brings its own texture and flavor. The Madeira is then reduced, lightening the sauce and offering a sweet balance to the dish’s earthiness. To finish, beet greens are added for color.
