Back Event Oct 20, 2016 @ 5 pm

Experience Architecture kicks off with an exploration of the education and career of architect Julia Morgan, FAIA. Event includes an appetizer reception and presentation.

Julia Morgan studied architecture at L’Ecole Des Beaux Arts in the era of Impressionism. It helped her to become a prolific architect. Through beautiful drawings, watercolors, and photographs this event will explore the education and early career of Julia Morgan, FAIA, and reveal her breakthrough contributions and innovations in the fields of design and construction technology– placing her legacy more completely within the context of architectural and engineering history. Morgan was focused and driven to become an exceptional architect.

Learn the steps she took to develop her talents, and how she changed the course of construction and technology. Topics include designing trusses, sketching impressionistic architecture, the ethos of form, relational movement an public space, interior developments, applications of reinforced concrete, molding a new world of construction, the uses of technology, application of style, and playing with biaxial symmetry.

Experience Architecture is a public-outreach event designed to facilitate greater transparency with the public in how architects create our built environment and how it impacts their daily lives; to create an ongoing dialogue to inform a distinct, regional, architectural identity; and to highlight existing relationships between the region and its architecture. The 2016 event is scheduled from October 20th to October 23rd.
