Breate California Hackademy Awards

Back Event Mar 1, 2014 @ 5:30 pm

The Hackademy Awards, aka “The Hacks,” is an exciting Hollywood-style red carpet event designed to engage teens in Breathe California’s tobacco-prevention advocacy efforts. Modeled as a spoof of other Hollywood movie awards ceremonies, the Hackademy Awards recognizes this year’s films in one category of interest: TOBACCO.

Attendees are greeted with a red-carpet entrance and treated to an entertaining awards show featuring both live and on-screen performances by local singers, actors and dancers, while our Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down! student movie reviewers present awards to this year’s popular actors, actresses and filmmakers based on their portrayals of tobacco-use onscreen. Thumbs Up! Awards are presented to those who either portrayed the realistic, harmful health effects of tobacco-use or abstained from onscreen tobacco-use entirely. Thumbs Down! Awards are presented to those who most glamorized tobacco-use.

Following the tongue-in-cheek awards ceremony, participants and attendees are invited to stay and join us for an all-inclusive teen-friendly after-party featuring free food, music, dancing, games, giveaways, and more!

Thanks to our generous event sponsors, local high school and college students are invited to attend the event for free. For more information, please contact Erin Piepgrass by phone at 916-444-5900 x212 or via email atepiepgrass@sacbreathe.org
