“Latitude/Longitude” features large format pieces Morlock has created using brick charcoal and printmaking paper that challenge value and perspective. He is best known for creating immersive landscapes that look photorealistic from a distance, but closer inspection reveals the textures and values used to create the image. “My hope is that people will approach my work as a type of doorway, almost as if you can choose to continue being in the room or walk into the drawing and be transported to the place it depicts.” You’ll find expansive landscapes mixed with classic depictions of famous sculptures. When asked why he depicts these sculptures: “It’s every generation’s responsibility to look at past generations and determine what’s heirloom and what’s trash. It would be a shame to lose some of the better lessons those who came before us taught us.”
In addition to the Gallery Show, ARTHOUSE resident artists will open their studios to the public on Second Saturday, October 12th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The art can also be viewed during regular ARTHOUSE building hours – Tues-Sat, 10am-4pm and Sun 11am-2pm – from October 11 to November 4.
