Cooper gets a blow out from Dana Chavez-Rey outside a home in Rocklin.
For 10 years, Dana and her husband, Alex, ran a successful brick-and-mortar pet grooming salon in West Sacramento, handling up to 30 dogs and cats a day. They managed a small staff and by the time they closed the business in 2015, their client database numbered nearly 4,000. Why give it up? “It was just way too much,” says Dana.
Her team spent two hours a day just cleaning and disinfecting the space. So the couple downsized — to a mobile business called A Purrfect Groomer that uses a van to make house calls throughout the Sacramento region.
“I went to the mobile conversion kicking and screaming, but now I love it and I wish I would have done it for my clients years ago,” Dana says, noting how an animal’s anxiety greatly drops when grooming occurs in the comfort of their own environment.
The groomers now have a client list of about 250 and see between 10-15 animals a day, spending an hour per pet. The full-service treatment includes bathing, a blow out, nails trimmed, teeth brushed, ears cleaned, glands expressed and a haircut. “We’re pretty efficient in getting things done, and we’re in and out while you’re drinking your morning coffee,” Alex says.

Having as many animals as I do, Dana and Alex have been total lifesavers! I tend to take on on the pets no one wants either because they are too old, too unsocialized or missing a various limb. Dana and Alex take them in stride and know how to work them!
Dana and Alex are two of my favorite people on this planet. trust them completely with my dogs. They are the best and my dogs are always happy to see them.
Having Alex & Dana groom my pup for over 4 years has been amazing. They treat her as their own and take her quirks in stride. They put a lot of love and work into her when they first started as she was nervous but she has come a long way. They are truly a gift to all animals who come their way. ❤️
