In June 2020, Kitchell CEM welcomed Wendy Cohen to her new position as company president. Cohen guides the firm with 26 years of experience in the construction industry, including seven years with Kitchell. Throughout her career, she’s worked on all sides of the construction industry, including general contractor, owner and consultant.
“I’m passionate about bringing a collaborative approach and mindset to our work where we actively engage all stakeholders” Wendy Cohen, president, Kitchell CEM
Founded in 1950 and based in Sacramento since 1982, Kitchell CEM offers program, project and construction management services, engineering and architectural services, and facility maintenance and management services. The largest construction management firm in the greater Sacramento area, the company serves primarily public-sector clients such as cities, counties, state agencies, as well as numerous local school districts and community college districts.
“Construction can be a tough industry,” says Cohen. “I’m passionate about bringing a collaborative approach and mindset to our work where we actively engage all stakeholders. I’ve had the opportunity to see how this approach can shape the outcome of projects in a positive way.”
She also describes herself as curious, a trait that suits her new role. “I’m always seeking ways to learn and grow as an individual. I love to explore ideas, ask questions and find out how we can do things better as a company.”
Cohen’s leadership style is collaborative, and she enjoys working with creative, innovative and forward-thinking people. That approach supports the development of a strong company culture that impacts Kitchell’s employees, clients and projects.
Prior to stepping into her role as president, Cohen was actively involved as the vice president of operations, managing all things related to COVID-19 since March. “The pandemic has brought out the best in this company, and our employees show strength and resiliency in the face of many changes in our world,” she says.
As Cohen looks forward to the next few years, her goal is to position Kitchell CEM for future growth and to continue to be thought leaders in the industry helping clients. She also fits well with Kitchell’s philanthropic culture. “I’ve enjoyed exploring the Sacramento area over the last year and am really looking forward to getting involved in the local community, organizations and causes,” she says.
