CASA de ESPAÑOL Center for Language and Culture (CASA), a local Spanish and English language school, is teaming up with La Familia Counseling Center, Help Chiapas and other local organizations to host “Calaveras & Corn Festival,” a free event celebrating both Día de los Muertos and Halloween.
The festival will feature carnival games sponsored by local businesses, a hayride down R Street, a pumpkin patch, kids’ costume contest with celebrity judges, an art area and lots of food and treats. Also included will be CASA’s sixth annual “Casa de los Espíritus,” a bilingual haunted house for kids of all ages that will celebrate the mystery and richness of Día de los Muertos.
In addition, an adult scavenger hunt will take place throughout Capitol Park with questions and clues in both English and Spanish. Hundreds are expected to participate, making this one of the largest bilingual scavenger hunts in the country. Each participant will get a free T-shirt, taco and a chance to win prizes. The race ends at CASA where guests can enjoy our “Mezcal Cantina Experience,” great food from MASA Taco Kitchen and live music.
While the festival is free to attend, games and the haunted house require A $5 wristband and the adult scavenger hunt is $40 for a team of two, $60 day of. 100% of the proceeds will go toward La Familia Counseling Center and Help Chiapas.
