Domaine Chandon 2008 Pinot Meunier, Carneros, $24:

Expansive aromas of lavender, plum and red cherry escape from the glass of this ruby wine with hints of nutmeg and minerality playing a supporting role. Luscious flavors of cherry, raspberry and boysenberry are immediately evident, while subtle earthiness, bramble and an appealing caramel characteristic develops in the finish.

Where to find it:

Sienna restaurant in El Dorado Hills (siennarestaurants.com), The Cellar Wine Bar in old Folsom and El Dorado Hills (thecellarwinebar.com) and Total Wine & More in Roseville (totalwine.com).

What to eat with this wine:

Seared scallops with white corn risotto, wild mushrooms, crispy bacon, porcini mushroom demi glace and white truffle oil.
