Día de los Muertos: Oak Park

Oct. 3 - Nov. 2

Back Event Nov 2, 2016

Día de los Muertos Oak Park, in its first year, was created by neighborhood residents who wanted to lift up their traditions and find new ways for the community to connect. Marigolds and altars will appear in buildings throughout the City’s Oak Park neighborhood, as a memorial to the dead and a celebration of life.

The month will be a flurry of activity. Altars at businesses will be erected for the entire month of October, starting next week, with personal altars later in the month. Art workshops on making sugar skulls and lectures on the history of the tradition will also take place, activities for families and different interests and backgrounds. The festival will culminate in a community celebration at the Brickhouse Art Gallery on the evening of November 2nd.
