See “Singin’ in the Rain” as this Historic Woodland Opera House opens for it’s 2021-2022 Season, presented by Tom and Meg Stallard and set for September 17 – October 10.
The stage show, based on the 1952 movie which is considered by many as the “Greatest Movie Musical of All Time,” was faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green, from their original award-winning screenplay.
The plot focuses on romantic lead Don and his sidekick Cosmo, as they conspire with Kathy on what to do about Don’s shallow leading lady, Lina Lamont, played by Patricia Glass. Lina is convinced that they are in love, despite Don’s protestations otherwise. But Don is smitten with Kathy, and with the emergence of talking pictures, Don, Cosmo, and Kathy are certain that Lina’s grating voice will become a problem in Don & Lina’s next picture. Don and Cosmo pitch the idea that Kathy dub Lina’s voice and though the premiere of the movie is a success, soon their fakery is revealed. Needless to say, the story line has many twists and turns, but the standout is the song and dance sequences. You will not want to miss this!
Underwritten by Tom and Meg Stallard, “Singin’ in the Rain” is directed by Rodger McDonald – his 14th Woodland Opera House directing project. Along with music direction by Jia-Min Rosendale, costume design by Denise Miles, choreography by Darryl Strohl-DeHerrera, set design by Mark Deamer and constructed by Mike Cartwright, light designer is Nikki Pendley and stage manager is Melissa Dahlberg.
