A Toast to Clearing the Air

Presented by Coalition for Clean Air

Back Event Mar 16, 2016 @ 5 pm

Coalition for Clean Air will be hosting one of our great signature events: A Toast to Clearing the Air. Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León who is a strong advocate for protecting public health and making clean transportation accessible to all Californians will be giving a keynote speech.  Senator Fran Pavley will receive an award honoring her visionary leadership in clean transportation and climate protection policy. CCA’s policy director Bill Magavern will be interviewing Senator Pavley about her long history of environmental stewardship.

Clean air champions and longtime friends of the Coalition for Clean Air, these two special guests have sponsored some of the country’s strongest environmental legislation, setting a high bar for policies to address air pollution and climate change, the greatest environmental challenge of our time. During her time in the State Assembly, Senator Pavley was a co-author of California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) and of the Clean Car Regulations Act (AB 1493) both of which established new nationwide standards on these issues. As President pro Tem, Senator de León has sponsored or shepherded many important bills to passage, including SB 535, the AB 32 Community Benefits Fund, a major new fund to clean- and green-up California’s most polluted neighborhoods. He is one of the strongest allies we have had in 40 years of monitoring clean air legislation in California.

Our CEO Dr. Joseph K. Lyou will give an update on the exciting initiatives we are engaged in: the Charge Ahead California campaign, which aims to have 1 million electric cars on California’s roads in the next eight years, our work for 100% Zero Emission transportation by 2050, and implementing the Community Benefits Fund, which will provide good, green jobs and clean infrastructure in California’s most environmentally and economically disadvantaged communities.

This casual, intimate gathering provides an excellent opportunity to get quality facetime with our state’s most active clean air champions in government, business, and advocacy.  We already have RSVPs from many legislators, agency leaders and statewide constitutional officers and we’ll also have drinks, delicious hors d’oeuvres and the best conversation in town.
