Comstock’s Enters the iPad Age

With its January 2011 edition, Comstock’s magazine is now available as a monthly application via the Apple App Store. Comstock’s is the first magazine in the nation to use the cutting-edge iPad application in the Inforgence America VcRead platform.

With this application, Comstock’s is able to present its readers with a multi-media experience complete with imbedded audio and video capabilities. In addition to receiving the award-winning editorial, graphic design and accompanying advertising package readers already receive in our monthly printed edition, through the iPad app readers may receive additional multi-media enhancements to editorial content and advertising alike.

“While Comstock’s has no intention of moving away from our monthly printed magazine, I see our entry into the world of tablet publishing as just a natural evolution in our industry,” says Winnie Comstock-Carlson, president and publisher.

According to Nieman Journalism Lab, the tablet revolution has hit the US publishing industry, and according to projections released at the recent Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas, tablet sales are projected to reach 70 million in the US in 2011 and 2012 (50 million of them iPads).

With this iPad application rollout, Comstock’s is at the forefront of delivering editorial and advertising content through this medial revolution taking the nation by storm.

“As a West Coast regional business publication, based in the capital city of California, we take great pride in being selected by Inforgence to be the prototype magazine for its software application launch,” says Comstock-Carlson. “We’ve only been on the Apple App Store bookshelf for a couple of weeks, but the local reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. Advertisers have responded enthusiastically as well, reporting that they value the capability to integrate components from their print, broadcast and digital productions seamlessly into one media platform.

For the first three months (January through March), the application will be available for free. Beginning in April, the application download will cost 99 cents monthly. To download the Comstock’s app, simply use your iPad, go to the Apple App Store icon, and type in “Comstock’s.”

Comstock’s is a monthly regional business magazine providing business insight to readers in the 10 contiguous Sacramento-area counties that make up California’s Capital Region. Comstock-Carlson launched the magazine in 1989.
