As an architectural design firm that specializes in educational environments, Aedis Architects is passionate about helping schools in the Sacramento and Greater Bay Area navigate the dilemma of modernizing outdated facilities or designing new buildings for their students. Whether it’s adding a culinary arts classroom to the Nevada Union High School campus or designing a theater and career technical education building for Armijo High School in Fairfield, every project leaves a positive lasting impact on the communities they serve.
The firm, founded in 1954, is now tackling its newest project in the Greater Sacramento area. Arbor Ranch Elementary School for Elk Grove Unified School District will be a brand-new, K-6 school located in a master-planned community in South Elk Grove.
“Aedis was awarded the project because of our innovative approach to meeting the District’s timeline,” says Joe Vela, Managing Principal of Aedis’ Central Valley office.
“Our clients appreciate that we pay close attention, present solutions and options, and, most importantly, follow through with what we say we’re going to do.”— Joe Vela, Managing Principal
Innovation is another important aspect of Aedis’ mission and success. The firm designed TimberQuest, a prefabricated, mass-timber classroom building solution that is environmentally friendly, boasts biophilic elements throughout, and can be erected in under three months. Not only does the building have a low carbon footprint, but the overall design allows occupants to feel connected to nature.
“The speed of construction combined with the quality of the final product was a winning combination for Elk Grove USD and TimberQuest will be used on the new Arbor Ranch Elementary School campus,” explains Vela.
“We strive to design spaces where students want to learn and where people feel safe and welcome. This creates an environment where learners want to be and will prosper as a result. Ultimately, that is how our projects leave a positive lasting impact on our communities,” he says.
