At Gateway Community Charters (GCC), we’ve always approached education as a lever for community revitalization. Long before “community schools” became a buzzword in education policy, we were establishing schools in historically underserved Sacramento neighborhoods — intentionally designing them as centers of opportunity, equity and voice.
Today, the state’s Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) amplifies this mission by investing in schools as integrated hubs that connect academics, mental health and family support. For GCC, CCSPP isn’t a shift — it’s a scaling mechanism. With these resources, we’re doubling down on what we’ve always believed: when a school is built with its community, outcomes multiply.
Our campuses reflect a future-forward, student-centered strategy. International Baccalaureate programs at GIS, EPIC and HLA offer globally competitive education in zip codes that rarely have access. CTE pathways at SAVA and CCCS prepare students for high-demand careers like EV auto tech, digital media and beyond, bridging our talent pipeline directly to the region’s economic growth sectors. Futures High School’s Early College model eliminates barriers to higher education, while our Virtual Academy ensures flexible, inclusive access to learning. All of it is guided by our Portrait of a GCC Graduate, anchoring our commitment to academic excellence, resilience and civic leadership.
Just as important as the programming are the partnerships. At GCC, we don’t invite community stakeholders to participate — we invite them to co-design. From COA’s refugee support work to SAVA’s EV Lowrider project, our campuses serve as living laboratories for cultural innovation, economic mobility and youth empowerment.
In an era where equity, workforce readiness and civic renewal are top-of-mind, Gateway offers a model that blends public purpose with bold execution. For over two decades, we’ve been crafting not just schools, but ecosystems of possibility.
As Sacramento grows, so must its commitment to community-anchored education. We welcome business leaders, policymakers and changemakers to join us in building schools that not only educate but also uplift our region.
