Since launching its Military Engagement initiative in 2015, Comcast has hired more than 21,000 military-connected employees nationwide, including 1,254 in California. This milestone reflects Comcast’s commitment to honoring those who’ve served — through meaningful employment, tailored benefits and community engagement.
Operation Old Glory: Honoring Our Nation’s Symbol
One of Comcast NBCUniversal’s most heartfelt initiatives is Operation Old Glory, a program started by military-connected employees to honor the American flag and its meaning to the communities we serve. Through this initiative, Comcast teammates replace worn or damaged flags outside homes and businesses, at no cost to property owners.
Any home or business is eligible, regardless of Comcast service status. All flags are made in America and sourced from a veteran-owned business, reinforcing the program’s commitment to supporting those who’ve served.
Comcast Flag Ambassadors are trained in flag-handling customs, including the 13 Folds tradition. After replacing a flag, they either return the old one to the property owner or coordinate with a local military-serving organization for dignified disposal. Since its inception, Operation Old Glory has replaced over 2,000 flags nationwide, reflecting Comcast’s deep respect for civic pride and military service.
A Legacy of Service
Comcast’s military hiring began with a goal to hire 10,000 veterans, reservists, and military spouses by 2017. After surpassing that target, the company expanded its commitment, ultimately hiring over 21,000 by 2023. These hires span roles from customer service to technology operations, with many veterans finding long-term career growth.
Founded by World War II Navy veteran Ralph Roberts, Comcast continues to honor his legacy through specialized benefits for military-connected employees, including Military Spouse Transfer Assistance, Guard and Reserve Leave, and a 9,000-member Veterans Network Employee Resource Group.
Celebrating the Local Veteran Community in the Sacramento Area
This Veterans Day, Comcast is teaming up with Sportsman Channel to bring Hunt. Fish. Feed. to West Sacramento. Community members are invited to the annual Heroes Lunch at the West Sacramento VFW on November 11, 2025, immediately following the West Sacramento Veterans Day Parade. The meal is free to all community members and will be served from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm (or while supplies last).
