GOODWILL INDUSTRIES

Empowering Our Community: Goodwill’s Message of Opportunity

Back Sponsored Apr 24, 2024

Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada serves as a beacon of empowerment and community support through its Mission Services initiatives. In 2023, Goodwill provided over 16,944  life-changing services to members of our community. These services include vocational training, paid work experience, job coaching and interview clothing assistance, providing holistic support to those with the greatest barriers to employment, including veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, individuals with disabilities, at-risk youth, the formerly incarcerated, and many more.

Brenda Pate, director of Goodwill’s workforce development, says that every day she is inspired by the extraordinary individuals she works with — “individuals who have overcome seemingly overwhelming challenges to rebuild their lives.”

“Whether through vocational training, job placement assistance or simply providing a supportive environment, Goodwill is vital in empowering individuals to achieve their full potential,” Pate says.

“Together, we create a more inclusive and thriving society where everyone can succeed.”— Brenda Pate Director of Workforce Development

A highlight of the nonprofit’s services includes their Good U vocational training program, which prepares individuals for high-demand roles in retail customer service, custodial, information technology and administrative office technician positions. Participants receive the necessary personal and professional growth skills, leading to long-term self-sufficiency. Goodwill also hosts free workshops, including resume building, interview success and financial education.

But Goodwill is not just a workforce development organization — they’re a catalyst for change, a beacon of hope for those seeking a fresh start.

“I am often asked why I love working here,” Pate says. “After over nine years with this incredible organization, my answer remains unwavering. It’s because I have the privilege and honor of witnessing firsthand the remarkable transformations that occur within our community.”

As Goodwill prepares for their Big Day of Giving campaign,
they invite you to join them in making a difference in our community. You can learn more about Big Day of Giving and
donate to Goodwill or other local participating nonprofits by visiting www.bigdayofgiving.org from April 18 through May 2.

Your support enables Goodwill and other local nonprofits to continue transforming lives.
