Gurnick Academy Deepens its Commitment to Sacramento’s Healthcare Future

GURNICK ACADEMY

Back Sponsored Sep 1, 2026

Sacramento’s healthcare community continues to grow, and with that growth comes an increasingly pressing need: preparing the next generation of skilled healthcare professionals to serve the region’s patients, families and communities.

Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts is proud to be part of that future.

With its new Sacramento campus, Gurnick Academy is expanding its commitment to the Capital Region, providing students with educational pathways into some of healthcare’s most essential and rewarding professions.

“We see Sacramento as an important part of Gurnick’s future,” says Burke Malin, chief operating officer of Gurnick Academy. “This is a community we are committed to serving for the long term. Our responsibility is not simply to educate students. It is to prepare them to enter healthcare with the skills, confidence and compassion their patients and employers expect.”

“This is a community we are committed to serving for the long term. Our responsibility is not simply to educate students. It is to prepare them to enter healthcare with the skills, confidence and compassion their patients and employers expect.”— Burke Malin, Chief Operating Officer, Gurnick Academy

Gurnick Academy’s healthcare-focused educational offerings span a broad range of medical imaging disciplines, including radiologic technology, diagnostic medical imaging, cardiac ultrasound, mammography and X-ray education and certification pathways.

Gurnick Academy also places significant emphasis on nursing advancement and completion.  They create opportunities for healthcare professionals to train as vocational nurses and registered nurses, with programs ranging from diploma- to master’s-degree-level nursing education.

While Sacramento represents an important part of Gurnick Academy’s continued growth, students are part of a larger learning community. Gurnick Academy operates five additional campuses in San Jose, Concord, Fresno, Modesto and Van Nuys. An online division extends access to healthcare education across the United States and provides additional pathways for students and working healthcare professionals to advance their education.

The connection between education and the healthcare community extends well beyond the classroom. Gurnick Academy students gain valuable experience throughout the region, with clinical placements across major hospitals and healthcare organizations in the Greater Sacramento area and surrounding counties. These relationships connect education with the realities of patient care while helping create a pipeline of emerging healthcare talent for the region.

That connection to people is also at the heart of Gurnick Academy’s evolving Human First philosophy.

“We want our graduates working here, building their lives here and caring for people here. That is what commitment to Sacramento means to us.”— Burke Malin, Chief Operating Officer, Gurnick Academy

Many Gurnick students are first-or second-generation college students. For them, completing a healthcare education can represent something much larger than earning a degree or beginning a career. It can mean changing a family’s trajectory, honoring parents and grandparents who sacrificed for them, and making those who supported their journey proud.

Human First reflects Gurnick Academy’s commitment to seeing the individual behind the student, recognizing the challenges many students overcome and providing an environment grounded in respect, encouragement and support.

It also reflects the healthcare professionals Gurnick Academy hopes to send into the community: people who understand that even as medicine becomes increasingly sophisticated and technology-driven,
great healthcare remains fundamentally human.

As Gurnick Academy expands its presence in Sacramento, its ambition goes beyond opening another campus. It is to become an increasingly important educational partner to the Capital Region, its healthcare institutions and the communities they collectively serve.

“We want our graduates working here, building their lives here and caring for people here,” Malin says. “That is what commitment to Sacramento means to us.”
