An innovative international leader in asynchronous consultations in health care, AsyncHealth uses patented software to streamline the patient-professional relationship, making initial clinic visits vastly more accessible and efficient. Since its founding in 2022, the company has attracted interest in multiple U.S. states, the U.K. and parts of Asia and continues to expand.
“We have created software enabling patients to be interviewed at their convenience and on their phones or any other device via a link to a customized AI-driven photo-realistic video agent,” explains Peter Yellowlees, M.D., co-founder and CEO. “That agent conducts a psychiatric interview with the patient which is videorecorded to capture the patient’s responses and background history. Then we use AI to transcribe and write a draft of medical notes and a patient summary. A clinician then reviews that on a secure dashboard, makes a diagnosis and writes a treatment plan in half their usual time.”
Async does not replace physicians but rather is an assistive tool to improve productivity and support them.
Yellowlees was recruited by UC Davis in 2004 as a professor of psychiatry for his clinical and IT expertise. AsyncHealth is rooted in Yellowlees’ 15-plus years of research at UC Davis and the company has a long-term agreement with the University of California for exclusive use of the intellectual property. Yellowlees is currently a distinguished emeritus professor of psychiatry at UC Davis.
AsyncHealth’s current psychiatric customers are health systems and public and private mental health clinics. Yellowlees says, “There is much interest from other specialties, such as rheumatology, pediatrics, sports medicine and primary care, because we’ve effectively developed an interviewing process that can save clinician time anytime a patient interview is needed and detailed clinical histories are collected.”
For patients, AsyncHealth creates better access and the ultimate convenience — they don’t need appointments. They can do their assessments anywhere and at any time, usually on their phones. For health professionals, AsyncHealth is making health care more flexible and business more streamlined, saving significant amounts of valuable clinical time.
Yellowlees concludes, “We’re internationally recognized experts in asynchronous consultations in health care, streamlining patient access and saving clinician time.”
