The Sacramento County Department of Airports (SCDA) counts on top talent to plan and guide operations for Sacramento International Airport, Sacramento Executive Airport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field, and that includes many women in leadership roles. Three of those leaders share their vision for the future of Sacramento’s airports.
Bree Taylor, Airport Manager,

oversees SCDA’s planning team and environmental team, as well as the wildlife team and noise office. The planning team helps guide the airports into the future, strategizing to overcome challenges, while the environmental team focuses on conserving resources for tomorrow through efficient operations today. “I very much look forward to the airport of tomorrow, expanding service for Sacramento-area residents to worldwide destinations while minimizing our reliance on non-renewable resources,” she says. “I also look forward to helping make the airport the most rewarding and satisfying workplace in the region.”
Genevieve Vargas, SCDA’s Principal Architect/Engineer,
oversees and supports the team responsible for delivering the Capital Improvement Program, finding solutions and removing roadblocks to keep projects moving. “Much of our work is directly tied to public safety and efficiency, implementing improvements to help minimize accidents and keep everyone at our airports safe,” she explains. “I’m looking forward to seeing our Design & Development team continue to grow and take on more complex, high-impact projects and ultimately, to building on the strong foundation we’ve created and helping the airport system take on the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Lauri MacDonald, Ground Maintenance Superintendent,
oversees the operational budget and 27 employees in the Ground Maintenance Section who manage all landside landscaping, indoor plant maintenance in SMF’s Terminal B and airside weed abatement around taxiways, runways, airside facilities, fence line and ramp areas. “We have a park-like setting at SMF that is unique and my team makes the airport grounds look beautiful and remain safe,” she says. “We’re looking ahead to some of the new landscaping having drip, low-water-use systems and drought-tolerant plants. This will really showcase the airport’s commitment to conservation and good stewardship.”
