The SMUD Museum of Science and
Curiosity (MOSAC) is an immersive science center and
community gathering space dedicated to learning. Its mission is
to make science accessible to all and encourage sparks
of creativity that last a lifetime.
Opened in 2021, MOSAC is committed to serving everyone in the community. As part of the Museums for All Initiative through the Institute of Museum and Library Services, EBT card holders and those utilizing SNAP programs get free entry.
Once inside, visitors let curiosity lead the way, exploring hands-on exhibits, diving into immersive experiences and unlocking the mysteries of the universe.
“Whether you’re a budding scientist or just love to learn, there’s something for everyone. Come spark your imagination and explore the possibilities.” -Michele Bennyhoff, MOSAC Director of Marketing and Development
”Our mission is to spark curiosity within every person. We are a portal to what’s possible,” says Michele Bennyhoff, MOSAC director of marketing and development.
MOSAC is more than a museum — it’s a vibrant hub for science education and community engagement. MOSAC welcomed nearly 180,000 visitors last year.
Bennyhoff says her favorite part of working at MOSAC is that play and exploration is part of her every day — so much so that an exhibit guided her to learn more about her family history.
“This year, my mother came to MOSAC to congratulate me on my new job and see the museum. As we stopped at the California Water Wise exhibit, my mother told me she worked on the California aqueduct project when she was younger. In that moment, I learned something new about my mother, our water and our state. Museums like MOSAC contribute significantly to multigenerational experiences and they play a vital role in informal education,” Bennyhoff says.
Guests are invited to join the museum during the holidays to build a snowflake in the Design Challenge exhibit. You can also help inspire curiosity with a donation. Tickets, information and giving opportunities can be found on the MOSAC website: visitmosac.org
