For 33 years, the El Dorado Community Foundation has been dedicated to strengthening their community generation upon generation. The Foundation was established in 1991 through Katy and Don Peek’s generosity. Upon selling their Michigan California Lumber Company in Camino, they bestowed the good fortune of that successful sale on the community at large. The El Dorado Community Foundation was born and now has grown to roughly $30 million in assets and an average of $2.5 million in annual grant making.
“We are dedicated to serving our region with empathy and excellence.”— Amy Pooley, Executive Director
The Foundation fulfills its mission by encouraging local philanthropy for the greater good of the communities of El Dorado County; providing a flexible tax-exempt vehicle for donors with varied charitable interests and abilities to give, working to connect donors who care with causes that matter; serving as a catalyst, convener, and partner in shaping effective responses to community problems and opportunities; and supporting the community need during times of disasters, such as the Caldor Fire.
The Foundation’s ongoing commitment to growing community philanthropy ensures a vibrant future for the El Dorado County region. This approach transcends grant making to serving as a dedicated partner to our donors, nonprofits, and community organizations.
“We are dedicated to serving our region with empathy and excellence,” says Executive Director Amy Pooley. “Our goals and initiatives are centered around increased connection and understanding with the community we serve, strategically connecting our nonprofit organizations who do such essential work with our fundholders, emphasizing purposeful philanthropy, and holistic community development.”
Community support for the Foundation is clearly seen in its Board of Directors membership as well as its steady growth over time. Board member Daniel Staszak, founder and principal of the accounting firm Staszak & Company, says, “We are proud to support the El Dorado Community Foundation, knowing its mission and methods are the best way of ensuring a bright future in El Dorado County.”
