Chantal Allen-Jarrell, MPH, is a Health Educator for Sacramento County Department of Health Services. She works on the “Mental Illness: It’s not always what you think Project” and coordinates the Stop Stigma Sacramento Speakers Bureau. She obtained her master’s of public health with an emphasis in health promotion from Fresno State.
One in five adults in this country will experience a diagnosable mental illness during their lifetime. Here, in Sacramento County, an estimated 300,000 residents are living with mental illness, which impacts every ethnic, racial, cultural, economic, religious, gender, sexual orientation and age group.
